Leica is renowned for its optical and imaging products--especially their lenses. Since their introduction in 1925 of the Leica 1, a groundbreaking 35mm rangefinder camera, Leica has been at the forefront of consumer optics. They are also known for their very high prices. Leica is a premium, luxury brand.
Their corporate motto translates as “the essentials” in English, and it’s well suited to their brand which emphasizes quality and precision design above all else.
In addition to cameras, Leica makes binoculars, microscopes, scanners and theodolites--that thing you see land surveyors peering into to measure distances.
